Case Study: Electrical Installation for Charity in Exeter
March 5, 2026The Brief
We were brought in to support Building Devon with the electrical installation for a major home extension project on the edge of Exeter. The clients were looking to significantly increase their existing living space, creating a modern, comfortable and energy efficient home that made the most of the beautiful valley views.
Our role focused purely on the electrical side of the build, working alongside the main contractor to ensure the new space was fully powered, safe, and ready for modern living.
The Challenge
Set on the side of a Devon hillside, the site presented a number of practical challenges throughout the build. The terrain meant careful planning was required as the structure progressed, and like many projects at the time, the pandemic created delays that slowed things down. Despite this, the project moved forward steadily and we remained flexible to support the build as required.

Working in Partnership
This was a well-designed and carefully planned project by Living Space Architects, who created a three-bedroom extension that blended beautifully into its surroundings. Materials were chosen to reflect the character of the existing property and landscape, including red brickwork to tie in with the original building and burnt larch cladding to complement the woodland setting.
We worked closely with Building Devon to ensure the electrical installation matched the standard of the build, delivering reliable and efficient power throughout the new living areas.
Our Electrical Installation
Our involvement centred on delivering a complete electrical solution for the extended space. This included installing the wiring infrastructure, power distribution, lighting circuits, and all the essential electrical systems needed to support a modern family home.
The property was designed to run on electricity only, so it was important that the installation was future-ready and capable of supporting technologies such as solar PV, battery storage and EV charging, which were included as part of the wider project.

The Result
The finished home is a spacious, energy efficient extension that blends seamlessly into its setting while offering all the benefits of modern electrical design. By supporting Building Devon with the electrical side of the project, we helped ensure the new living space was fully equipped, safe, and ready for everyday use.
It’s a great example of how collaboration between contractor and specialist electrical team can deliver a high-quality result, even on more complex sites like this Devon hillside location.
