Case Study: Electrical Installation Support for Hillside Extension, Exeter
February 10, 2026
When Heating Fails | We Are Here to Help
March 20, 2026We’re proud to have supported RSPCA Little Valley in Exeter on an important redevelopment project, working alongside Fifields Construction to deliver the electrical package for a brand new small animal enclosure and refurbishment of the main offices.
RSPCA Little Valley is a well-known local charity dedicated to promoting animal welfare and preventing cruelty across the region. Being involved in a project that directly improves facilities for rescued animals was something our team were genuinely pleased to support.
The Project
The scheme centred around the creation of a new purpose-built warren for rabbits and guinea pigs, replacing outdated structures and significantly improving the environment for the animals in their care.
The wider works included:
- Demolition of the existing buildings
- New groundworks and drainage
- Construction of a new flat roof structure with skylights
- Installation of new structural steelwork
- Cladding and rainwater goods
- New fencing, paving and landscaping
- Block walls with thermal insulation to walls and floors
- Full mechanical and electrical services, including extensive fire detection systems
Electrix delivered the electrical installation across the new warren as well as refurbishment works within the main office areas.
Our Electrical Scope
Working closely with Fifields and the wider project team, we ensured that the electrical systems were safe, reliable and suitable for an animal care environment.
Our works included:
- Electrical supplies to the new small animal enclosure
- Internal and external lighting installations
- Power distribution to support heating and environmental controls
- Integration of comprehensive fire detection systems
- Electrical upgrades and refurbishment within the main office building
In animal welfare facilities, safety and reliability are critical. Fire detection and alarm systems were a key part of the installation, providing early warning protection for both staff and animals.
Designed for Welfare and Efficiency
The new warren has been built with thermal insulation to walls and floors, helping to create a stable, comfortable environment for rabbits and guinea pigs. Our electrical installation supports these energy-efficient design elements, ensuring that heating, lighting and essential services operate effectively.
Natural light through new skylights reduces reliance on artificial lighting during the day, while energy-efficient fittings ensure low running costs when lighting is required.
Supporting a Local Charity
As part of this collaboration, both Fifields Construction and Electrix are proud to be working with RSPCA Little Valley. Projects like this are about more than just buildings, they’re about creating safe, modern facilities that allow charities to continue their vital work within the local community.
By delivering high-quality electrical installations that meet current regulations and safety standards, we’ve helped ensure the new facilities are fit for purpose, both now and in the years to come.
If you’re planning a refurbishment, new build, or specialist facility and need a reliable electrical contractor with experience across commercial and community projects, our team would be happy to help.
