Why Now Is the Right Moment for a Heating Upgrade
November 14, 2025Project Overview
Set within the Devon countryside near Doddiscombsleigh, this project involved extending a traditional cob-built farmhouse to create a contemporary and energy-efficient home while retaining its character.
Our Role
Working alongside the main contractor and architects, Electrix Ltd provided the complete electrical installation for the new extension. This included full wiring throughout, smart lighting design, power distribution, and preparation for future technologies such as EV charging. The electrical systems were designed to integrate seamlessly with the property’s renewable energy setup, including a ground-source heat pump providing efficient heating and hot water.
Key Features and Challenges
- Designed to achieve high levels of energy efficiency with airtight construction and advanced insulation.
- Integration of ground-source heat pump and underfloor heating for consistent warmth and low running costs.
- Infrastructure installed for EV charging to future-proof the property.
- The hillside location and discovery of an unused well during construction required flexible planning and on-site adaptability.
The Result
The completed extension perfectly balances old and new, with modern materials such as timber cladding and zinc roofing complementing the farmhouse’s traditional features. The new electrical system provides reliable power, smart controls, and enhanced energy efficiency, supporting the home’s low-carbon design.

Why It Matters
This project showcases how thoughtful electrical design contributes to sustainable building. Our team ensured compliance, efficiency, and flexibility, creating a system that supports the client’s renewable energy goals while adding everyday practicality and comfort.
