Project: Georgian Extension – a new garage, utility room, cloakroom, and a large flat-roofed kitchen extension above the basement
Project Overview
Located in central Exeter, the Georgian Extension involved replacing an outdated conservatory with a beautifully designed extension for a young family. Working with Building Devon and Living Space Architects, the project created a new garage, utility room, cloakroom, and a large flat-roofed kitchen extension above the basement. Key features included walk-on glass panels, a rooflight over the kitchen, and a circular rooflight to illuminate the hallway and garage below. buildingdevon.co.uk
Electrical Challenges
- Lighting and architectural features such as glass panels, rooflights, and large sliding aluminium doors required carefully planned lighting and power.
- Working on a listed/semi-traditional property, preserving the architectural integrity while integrating contemporary electrical systems was important.
- Hidden or embedded lighting and wiring — keeping aesthetics clean and discreet.
- Ensuring all installations met current regulations while accommodating modern conveniences and energy-efficient designs.
Our Electrical Solutions
- Full wiring installation for kitchen, utility, cloakroom, garage & hallway, including concealed lighting for the gallery walk-on glass floor and rooflight features.
- Installation of appropriate lighting schemes for both natural light features and electric lighting for evening use.
- Power supply to accommodate modern kitchen appliances and garage utilities.
- Ensuring safety with up-to-date compliance, proper circuit protection, and energy-efficient LED fittings.
- Coordination with other trades (glass, roofing, architects) to ensure seamless integration.

Outcome & Benefits
